What to Expect: CircusFit

Signing up for a new class can be intimidating - not knowing what to expect, whether it's right for you and whether you'll enjoy it can be off-putting. To reassure my lovely clients that they're choosing something beneficial for their current fitness level, bank balance and lifestyle, I'm breaking down how the classes and courses are going to work so everyone can book with confidence.
CircusFit

CircusFit is a slight deviation from my usual classes but also a class that feels like coming home for me - the first fitness class I ever ran was a CircusFit class, way back in about 2016 at GymBox. The class has more focus on strength and conditioning than any of my other classes but using the aerial circus equipment which makes it feel fun, functional and skills-based!
Warm Up (10 mins)
The class will start with a cardio warm up, mostly jogging with some additions to start stretching your muscles out. We'll then move onto some travelling movements, switching weight distribution to prepare for inversions later on and warm up hands and wrists appropriately before coming together to complete some dynamic stretches and core work.
Aerial Circuits (25 mins)
After the warm up, we'll move to a conditioning circuit using the aerial equipment, simple shoulder shrugs, toe taps and maybe a basic inversion to help everyone feel confident on the equipment. Depending on class numbers, there may also be a handstand station and floor work between the equipment (which is often welcome for beginners to rest their hands!).
The second circuit will be more dynamic, working towards a particular move or position across the equipment - this can be as straightforward as a pike or straddle hold, coming to sit on the equipment or more skills-based such as a gazelle or hip lock. The move we're working towards will be the same for all participants regardless of experience as beginners can start developing strength towards the move and improvers can use the time to work on technique or I can add further conditioning within the move.
Practice/Skill Work (10 mins)
If we have time after the circuits, we will have 10 minutes for improvers to practice skills on the equipment while I support beginners in achieving something new - I want everyone to leave with a sense of achievement and maybe a photo or two to prove what they learned!
Stretch (10 mins)
After all that work you deserve a stretch! We will come to the floor and stretch together, some of this will have a developmental stretch option if you're working on your flexibility but otherwise it will all be recovery based as you'll likely be a bit sore after using all those hanging muscle that you may not have used in a while.
CircusFit is suitable for all levels, whether you want to try something new, develop strength in a fun, functional way or work on your aerial strength and technique. I've taught complete beginners and professionals alike and would love to see you there!
My first CircusFit workshop with Fit Happens will be on Saturday 18th July 10am at Be in the Sky, 7 Medina Road, Southampton
